DUSHANBE, TAJIKISTAN — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Tajikistan on Thursday as part of his ongoing four-nation diplomatic tour aimed at strengthening ties with regional allies. The visit follows earlier stops in Turkiye, Iran, and Azerbaijan, where the premier expressed appreciation for the countries’ support during recent military tensions with India.

Accompanied by a high-level delegation — including Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi — the prime minister was received at Dushanbe International Airport by Tajik Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda.

The two-day visit to Tajikistan includes a scheduled bilateral meeting between PM Sharif and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon. According to state broadcaster PTV News, the discussions will focus on enhancing cooperation across various sectors and acknowledging Tajikistan’s consistent support for Pakistan during heightened tensions with India.

The visit comes a day after PM Sharif participated in a trilateral summit with leaders from Turkiye and Azerbaijan. During the summit, he reiterated Pakistan’s readiness to engage in dialogue with India on the Kashmir dispute and counterterrorism, urging New Delhi to respond with “genuine sincerity.”

In addition to diplomatic engagements, the prime minister is set to attend the International Conference on Glaciers’ Preservation, where he will address global leaders on Pakistan’s climate challenges. His speech is expected to highlight the country’s efforts to combat climate change and preserve its rapidly depleting glaciers.

The Tajikistan leg concludes PM Sharif’s four-nation outreach initiative, aimed at reinforcing regional solidarity and cooperation amid evolving geopolitical dynamics in South Asia.
